Faith Ward, Chief RI Officer at Brunel and Chair of the IIGCC, has been named as one of three Working Group Chairs appointed to oversee the work of the UK’s new Transition Finance Council (TFC).

The TFC was established on the recommendation of the 2024 Transition Finance Market Review to raise and deploy transition finance in the UK. It is chaired by Lord Alok Sharma KCMG, former President of COP 26 and former Business Secretary;

“I am excited by the opportunity that the new Council provides to deliver tangible progress in enabling transition finance for the UK, and globally,” said Faith Ward.

“While there has been progress in many areas of transition finance, enormous untapped potential remains that could be unlocked with improved clarity and consistency.  This requires a joined-up approach to policy and regulation, significant capacity-building, and close coordination with key stakeholders in finance and government. Policy is one of our five Climate Change thematic priorities, and this role delivers an exceptional opportunity to advocate effectively.”

Policy Advocacy

Brunel’s approach to enabling systemic change in the investment industry on Climate Change has always had five primary focuses: policy; products; portfolios; positive impact; persuasion.

Brunel has supported the Taskforce of the National Wealth Fund, which delivered its recommendations to the government in 2024; the Transition Plan Taskforce Delivery Group; Adaptation Working Group; and Green Taxonomy Advisory Group. In all these cases, we use our role and standing to advocate for progress across key RI priorities.

Faith also represents Brunel and the IIGCC at the COP conferences and on the ISSB Investor Advisory Group.

Transition Finance Council

The TFC will play a leading role in positioning the UK as global leader in transition finance, and will fulfil three primary functions:

  1. Drive forward implementation of the Transition Finance Market Review’s recommendations
  2. Support transition finance capacity building and engagement with UK and international stakeholders
  3. Convene working groups to advance priority areas aligned with the Council’s objectives

Faith will sit on the Strategic Steering Committee of the TFC, as well as chairing its scaling finance working group.

The TFC is an initiative co-launched by the UK government and the City of London. Its Deputy Chair is Irem Yerdelen, managing partner at ERM and board director at the Green Finance Institute. More details are available on the City of London website.
