Powys, Wales: Onshore Wind

Brunel is invested in a string of Welsh wind farms, largely across Powys, through which it aims to deliver 2.2GW of clean energy – enough to power 2.25 million homes by 2030. The energy farms can deliver up to 25% of the Welsh government renewables target, which is for 100% of electricity generation to come from renewables by 2035. Our Cycle 2 Renewable Infrastructure portfolio includes an allocation to Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), which has made a full-lifecycle investment to Bute Energy, the Welsh renewable energy developer that is building the wind farms. Our investment was made via CIP’s Copenhagen Infrastructure IV fund. By early 2025, Bute was already planning or developing projects at ten different sites across Wales. Bute is meeting around 18% of the UK government target to double onshore wind by 2030. (Projects already live in the Developments of National Significance planning system are marked green on the map. Projects marked pink are not yet in the planning system.)
